The Ford Mustang continues to lead sales in the American muscle market, but the Challenger is not far behind it.
Which is not to be said about the Camaro…
The classic Ford muscle car remains the top-selling American sports car for what seems like the one thousandth year in a row. The once seemingly impervious armor of the Mustang is slowly deteriorating. Sales of the Mustang have declined by 7.4% since 2017, but are still tops in the muscle car market. A total of 75,842 Mustangs were sold in 2018.
Unfortunately, Chevorlet has a decision to make as the Camaro might be making its way from production. An unappealing front clip “facelift” has lead to a drop of 25% in sales compared to last year, down to 50,963 Camaros being sold. A drop of this proportion is never a good sign for a company. This could mean without a good showing in 2019 the Camaro could find its way out of production.
The Challenger however experienced its best year and saw the only growth of the three. Dodge had a growth of 3% among Challenger sales, up to 66,716 units sold.
Giving credit to Dodge as they are known for their great sales, use of special editions and trim levels. Making every customer feel as if the car is specifically tailored for them. 2018 was also the launch of the Demon ( 840 hp, 770 lb-ft supercharged 6.2-liter V8) the most powerful muscle car yet.
