Shelby GT500 Review, Pricing and Specs
BY ZACK YOCHUM ON 12 JULY 2019
Engine & Transmission Specs
The 2020 Shelby GT500 is an absolute monster of a car. The GT500 is equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 putting out a jaw dropping 760 horsepower and 625 lb foot of torque. The new supercharged 5.2 Liter is a flat-plane crank opposed to the typical cross-plane crank V8. This allows the engine to be revved higher, much higher. The advantages of the flat-plane crank are its weight and size. With this overhauled motor Ford reports the GT500 can hit 60 mph in under three seconds and can turn the quarter mile in under eleven seconds. The 760 horsepower motor connects to a dual seven-speed automatic transmission. As of now there is no option for a manual transmission.
Handling & Ride
When it comes to the handling and ride of the GT500 there are no disappointments. From the wheels up, the GT500 is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires which are nothing short of spectacular, made of a unique compound and tread. To stop all the power you’re gonna need some good brakes, The GT500 comes standard equipped with 16.5 inch rotors and six piston Brembo brakes so you can stop on a dime. Ford has two performance-oriented options: the Handling package includes adjustable strut top mounts and a spoiler; the Carbon Fiber Track package features exposed 20 inch carbon-fiber wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. It also boast an adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing, and a mean front splitter. The GT500 does not come with a rear seat, it is strictly track focused.
Overview
Overall the Shelby GT500 is not for everyone as it is a fully built track car. When this car goes on the lot this summer it will be competing with the 650-hp Camaro ZL1 and the 717-hp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Prices for the 2020 GT500 will start at $73,995; but fully optioned, a GT500 could cost over $100,000.
